Torrent site and record label join forces
Beep! Beep! Back up the Truck and Mininova stimulate CD sales
Utrecht, 30 March. The indie label Beep! Beep! Back up the Truck from Utrecht, The Netherlands, has closed a deal with torrent site Mininova concerning the distribution of both its digital repertoire as well as all its physical albums. The label’s entire catalogue, consisting of eightteen releases, is made available as a free download at Mininova. A unique aspect is that, besides torrents, Mininova also offers the physical albums of the label.
A new perspective
“As a label we want to show what new possibilities a torrent site like Mininova has to offer us. In our eyes torrent sites form an enrichment of the modern music landscape by facilitating a better distribution and more income.”, says co-founder of the label Boudewijn Rosenmuller. As the label publishes its artists’ work under the Creative Commons license, a present-day embodiment of creative property protection, all the artists may spread their own work as they please.
Stimulating CD sales
“This shows that music sales and downloads can stimulate each other”, according to Niek van der Maas of Mininova. “We are excited about this collaboration and we welcome other record labels willing to adopt this model.”
Users of the torrent site will, besides downloading the music for free, be able to buy a physical CD for a reduced rate.
Rosenmuller: “Nowadays people prefer to listen to an album critically before deciding, for example, to go to a concert or even consider buying a CD, and we understand this. With a reduction of 15-20% on our CDs we want to thank the users of Mininova for listening to and helping to spread our music.”
Presentation of collaboration
The new collaboration will be presented on 11 April in Tivoli de Helling in Utrecht, The Netherlands, during the presentation of the new We vs. Death CD, one of the bands on the Beep! Beep! Label. This CD is available at Mininova from 30 March onwards. Both as a torrent as well as a physical release, of course.

If I download the music and love it I shall donate money to you via the link on the right rather than buying the CDs as that would cause a lot of carbon emissions not to mention the non-biodegradable plastic involved and the shipping etc.. Save money/Make money! Awesome idea guys!
