It’s our birthday!

Yes, good friends. Beep! Beep! Back up the Truck turned 3 years old!

No time to reminisce though. Time for a mind blowing party!

The festivities will take place on Sunday, August 28 at Utrecht’s main venue, Tivoli Oudegracht and will not merely involve eating cake and sipping coffee. No sir, there will also be music! Please behold our humble line up!

bio

Alden Penner is a Canadian musician and producer from Montreal, Canada. In 2000 Penner formed The Unicorns together with high school friend Nicholas Thorburn and Jamie Thompson. The band released two albums ‘Unicorns are people too and their ‘major album’, ‘Who Will Cut Our Hair When We’re Gone?’ which garnered critical acclaim.

After The Unicorns disbanded in 2004, Penner played with a number of Montreal-based bands in addition to live concerts as a solo act. In his time between projects, Penner created the score for the independent film The Hamster Cage and managed the Canadian based record label Take This Hammer, which he has since put to rest.

Penner debuted his new band Clues at the Pop Montreal festival in October 2007. Clues’ self-titled debut album was released on May 19, 2009 on Constellation Records, with a North American tour and two European tours to follow.

In 2010, Penner announced the creation of a new band called Hidden Words, which consists of former Unicorns member Jamie Thompson, Eric Farr, James Farr, Neah Kelly, and Marie-Claire Saindon. The band plays music inspired by the Bahá’í Faith and has played many shows in Canada. The first album will be available in late spring, a second album is already in the works.

On April 4th 2011 Alden Penner released it’s first solo effort since 2005 through Beep! Beep! Back Up the Truck. The recording named ‘Odes to the house’ documents a collection of songs written during a three month journey through Africa and the middle east.

National pride! Het Gloren – Glorie 123

So here’s a little piece of education for all you non Dutchies.

On April 12, we will present our first all Dutch release. Which means that the lyrics are packed with funny sounding words and ambiguous expressions that make us smile while you don’t get it.

flap

‘Glorie 123′ by Het Gloren is the musical debut of Floris Schrama. Schrama grew up in Schipluiden which is located in the typically Dutch polder. Polder? Yes, polder! This explicit environment formed the foundation for Schama’s reflection en consciousness that you will find in his lyrics and music.

Where Floris is known for playing solo the album was recorded in company of Wouter Kors and Gerben Houwer both known for their role in We vs. death.

Since translating the lyrics of Het Gloren would ruin the whole experience
we suggest you’ll start practicing Dutch…Go on! You won’t regret it.

Press play for your first lesson!

With the release comes an album presentation in style. So if you happen to be nearby (or drown in money). Make sure to stop by at wood sawing company ‘the Stern’, based in an original Mill in the city center of Utrecht. Ain’t that fresh!
