There’s no stopping our girls of My bubba & Mi! While they are currently in the USA for a two week tour and showcases at Culture Collide (LA) and CMJ (NY), we are very proud to present to you a brand new EP titled ‘Wild & You‘.
The juicy new EP by My bubba & Mi holds 5 new tunes in a shimmering flower sleeve. These tickling, silky like songs were born in spring days of longing, and became fully grown in a dense fruitful garden while rehearsing for a tour with the Tangarine Twins early this summer. Recording them shortly thereafter, here is now a lovely little jewel to savor and sip, right on time for cold dark fall. ‘Wild & You’ is released on Oct. 7 and introduced by a historic video for single ‘Through & Through’.

And good news for all you free-music-hawking-music-buffs out there:
We’re very proud to release our 12th official release to date. As of today the second EP titled Friends & Family by the noise-poppers Nikoo can be downloaded in our music section on a pay-what-you-want basis. Go check it out and see if the band is right when they told us: “Nikoo irritates. At least, I hope it does.”
Nikoo is a noise-pop beast to love. Songs and productions of international class. No bells and whistles, full of threat, urgency and sex. Raw and pure, hard and overwhelming. Joep van Son and his four noise makers take you by surprise as no other, full of inconvenience and dispossession.
A craze for raw, raunchy pop music got Joep van Son writing in early 2010. After merely one hour of rehearsing, the productive quintet enters the studio for the recording of six abrasive and urgent songs. “I love musician’s first impulses. Short rehearsals keep the creativity and hunger fresh. You can hear that in our recordings”, says Van Son. The trendsetting American music platform Pitchfork praises the inventive noise-pop of Eindhoven-based Joep van Son and his band members. Dutch music press too received the noise with open arms: “Somewhere between Sonic Youth at its most rocking, And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead at its fuzziest and Dinosaur jr. at its most melodious moments”, according to renowned music magazine OOR. VPRO’s 3VOOR12 adds: “A band that pushes boundaries and goes beyond them to create something new.”
The recipe for success is repeated at the end of 2010. Friends & Family, with its seven songs, screams for attention. Songs about women, girls, exes and movies, all recorded by band member and producer Rob Bours. The artwork is created by Dutch music photographer Nick Helderman (Oor, Vice, 3VOOR12, Self-Titled Magazine).
Nikoo consists of: Joep Van Son (The Sugarettes, The Very Sexuals), Mariska Louman (The Sugarettes, Foam), Rob Bours (The Very Sexuals, among others), Hugo Ploegmakers (Foam, among others), Mike Dobber (Klaus Womb & Penny super pony strip) and Pim Verlaek (Pien Feith band). Friends & Family sees guest performances by the talented Pim van de Werken (Silence is Sexy) and Gwendolien Douglas (AC Bergheimer).

My Bubba & Mi joins our Family!
Ah, remember…A year and a half ago we dove right in that Dutch musicbizz and got our paws wet (and a little more than just paws I’m afraid). Seven beautiful releases – and countless valuable experiences later we feel like weathered veterans, but really, those albums only whetted our appetite. It’s time for new things. New territory to be discovered.
The last couple of months we’ve been peaking over our countries border and saw some awesome new things that made us think ‘gimme!’. One of those ‘things’ is a 3 piece group named My Bubba & Mi from that strangely appealing, home-of-lego country called Denmark.
Here’s the story in short. There’s three girls – My, Bubba and Mia – from three countries – Denmark, Sweden and Iceland. Somehow they ended up in the same place: an appartment in Copenhagen and became friends. Bubba tells us:
“It just happened that way. Then we became friends and My bubba & Mi. During our third concert, in Copenhagen, Andrea, an italian café owner, happened to bike by, and he heard our voices he said and came in. After the show he told us we should come play at his café in Italy. We were pleased that he liked us, but we thought we’d never hear from him again. Then a couple of months later we got an email from Alessandro at WWNBB, who had been introduced to our music by Andrea, and who wanted to organize a tour for us in Italy the following year. We went, and they asked us to come back soon to make a record. We did.”
They did alright.
They left Italy with a lovely record called ‘How it’s done in Italy‘. The girls themselves describe their music as lullabies from the countryside, which we must admit, goes a long way. Think folk, country & blues, think old days, lovely harmonies, think of a robust contrabass dating a fragile casio keyboard. No, stop thinking, start listening!
Gone I will never love a young boy again
Yes sir. ‘How it’s done in Italy‘ get’s the lovely catalogue nr. BEEP008-2010 and is our first release of an international artist! The album will be released on CD & Vinyl and hits the stores March 8. We’ll have the girls over for a little tour in April. More on those things later. For now, the girls would like to say ‘hi’ to you their selves. Why don’t you say ‘hi’ back?

Kismet; ‘Hiatus’ Performed Acoustically But Not Necessarily Worse
`Seven Songs Of Our Previous Record ‘Hiatus’ Performed Acoustically So They’ll Sound A Little Different But Not Necessarily Worse’
Kismets little gesture to mothers, daughters, openminded hetrosexuals, metrosexuals, homosexuals, and let’s not forget the mainstream. In short. This release might not be suitable for machos, but most definitely is for people who fancy machos. Catch our drift?
These seven songs were recorded in their hometown Utrecht during a live show back in june. They guy who’s responsible for all this would be Chris Regtop, who actually graduated with this project at the School For Awesome & SuperTalented People Who In Fact Are SuperTalented (and most of them awesome) But Problably Will Have To Live Of Government Funding Or Try And Find A Real JobCuz The Music Bizz Is A Bitch (what’s up with superlong idiotic titles anyways these days?!).
Give these songs a try and download ‘em HERE. If you’d like to buy it, you can find it in our webshop. Or come and pick one up yourself at one of their livingroom shows with The Black Atlantic and Het Gloren
in December. Awesome times! Dates are below.
