Sticky: 3 Year Anniversary party with Blonde Redhead, The Black Atlantic, My bubba & Mi and more!

When your to-do list is longer then Mr. Zijlstra’s list of planned cultural cutbacks, you can be hella sure ‘reminiscing’ isn’t on there. That’s how it can happen that while you’re doing your business on the potty (yes, that other kind of business) and your staring absent minded at your calendar, all of a sudden it hits you: Holy crap shit! It’s our birthday!

Yes, good friends. Beep! Beep! Back up the Truck turned 3 years old!

No time to reminisce though. Time for a mind blowing party!

The festivities will take place on Sunday, August 28 at Utrecht’s main venue, Tivoli Oudegracht and will not merely involve eating cake and sipping coffee. No sir, there will also be music! Please behold our humble line up!

Blonde Redhead (us)
Moon & Sun (swe)
The Black Atlantic (nl)
My bubba & Mi (is/se/dk)
Het Gloren (nl)

The evening will start early as doors open at 17:30. The first act will play at 18:30 (order will be announced soon). Good to know: the party will take place at two different stages. The bottom three of the above mentioned acts will kick things off in ‘The mirror room’ while Moon & Sun and Blonde Redhead will carry on the awesomeness at the main stage.
Tickets giving access to both rooms are limited to 200. Tickets for the main hall are available through Tivoli.nl but do not give access to the mirror room. In case you already bought a main hall ticket you can mail info@beepbeep.nl to get info about how to get access to the mirror room.

Tickets go by the price of €20,-
What are you waiting for!

The Black Atlantic Dutch club tour

Last month The Black Atlantic embarked on a great adventure starting in Los Angeles and ending all the way in a Chinese town called Chengdu. In the US the band did plenty of showcases in L.A. and later that week at the worlds biggest showcase festival SXSW in Austin. Right after they flew to Beijing, China to start their first Chinese tour, lasting over two weeks.

Fortunately the band brought along a young filmmaker who documented the trip and is currently locked up in her editing room to make sure we can show the film at the upcoming concerts. As off next week the band will do a series of headliner shows in some great Dutch clubs. Fans at Vera Groningen and Tivoli Utrecht will be treated to an exclusive preview of the Chinese tour documentary.

Free LEGUESSWHO? Pre-Party feat. Beach Fossils

To warm you up for LEGUESSWHO? festival 2010 we will host a FREE pre-party on Friday, November 12. It will take place at dB’s, Utecht, where you will be entertained by New Yorks hottest, Beach Fossils.

The jangly, self recorded ramblings of Brooklyn’s Dustin Payseur go by the name of Beach Fossils and offer hauntingly catchy tunes that blend the energy of an impulsive road trip with the melodious wandering of a lucid dream. Sun drenched riffs, kaleidoscopic rhythms and hazy lyrics saturate Beach Fossils’ first release, the album’s carefree vibe is perfectly summed up through song titles such as ‘Daydream,” “Vacation,” and “Lazy Day.”

listen to the fossils over here!

LEGUESSWHO? it self will take place from November 24 till the 28th. Over 50 of the finest bands (like Broken Social Scene, Beach House, Menomena & Talleest Man on Earth) will make their presence. More info here

LE GUESS WHO? pre-party with

CLUES (Montreal, Constellation records)

Clues was founded in the summer of 2007 by Alden Penner (one-half of Unicorns) and Brendan Reed (Endless Forever, Arcade Fire). In 2008, Clues recruited friends Ben Borden, Lisa Gamble, and Nick Scribner from the Montreal art and music scenes.
During live shows and on recordings, the band share and trade-off on their extensive collection of instruments and create a hopeful, urgent music that expands Montreal’s (already diverse) pop music lexicon, with references to post-punk and experimental music traditions. Clues’ concerts incorporate multiple drummers, a Commodore 64, and an OLPC.

Afterwards people will be dancing to tunes chosen by Utrechts most famous DJ WIEKES

More hot words on that next week when we are still hungover from the incredible pre-party!!!

that city be actin’ up

One of our favorite venues here in our beautifull lil’ hometown Utrecht could get in some serious trouble since the city’s planning on cutting down their funding. As always, there’s quite a backstory attached to this plan and to be honest, things are smelling a bit fishy. Read all about it at 3voor12.
Over the years Utrecht has developed a healthy and diverse musicscene and Tivoli played a major part in this. Please show your support for this great venue and sign the partition they’ve opened on their site.

A sneak-a-peak at A Black House…

‘A Black House, A Coloured Home’, the second full-length album by We vs. Death will  be released the 11th of April in Tivoli de Helling. Crazy rumours are spreading that these instrumental post-rockers actually started singing. Can it be true?!

Come and listen to two exclusive preview tracks. Read the rest of this entry »
