V.A.S presents Alarma Man and Sanchez, the Devil & the Hieropha

Well you know the format by now. An international act and a Dutch act. As eclectic as can be. Often presented by a different theme. With artwork by Sacha van den Haak (a.k.a. the Host). Well here’s another edition coming up! It’s going to be awesome!

Thursday 12 augustus

Alarma Man and Sanchez, the Devil & the Hieropha

Alarma Man sounds like a mercilessly harsh Swedish precision bomb. Somewhere between Drive Like Jehu, Don Caballero and Fugazi! And they look like this!

Vette Analoge Shit! w/ Railcars, Eklin & Neon Rainbows

Correct us if we’re wrong, but we seems to be really good at this! Thao taught us some serious songwriting skills not to mention fingerpicking! Still psyched, we are heading towards the next edition of Vette Analoge Shit with Railcars, Neon Rainbows and Eklin. Do your homework!

Friday February 5th
(yet another edition of Vette Analoge Shit!)

Railcars (us)

And then there was Railcars, who recorded its first 7″ in the Kitchen of Xiu Xiu frontman Jamie Stewart. Railcars is an attempt to bring the images that have haunted Aria’s mind to life using drum boxes, synths, and noise pedals with sentiments recreated in lyrical form. The current four member line up for Railcars live performances was established by Jalali before touring with Handsome Furs in April 2008. Railcars can be compared to Jamie Stewards side project Former Ghosts, Wavves with a touch of Animal Collective. Ain’t that fresh!
listen to some tunes here!

Neon Rainbows

Straight forward rock comes from the hand of Neon Rainbows. These fellows gained quite some fame under the name of Fever dream. Since it’s not up to us to pull old cows out of the ditch we compare them with Les Savy Fav and Cursive.
listen to some tunes here!

Eklin

Last and least would be Eklin, formally known as Adept. About the ‘least’ thing we were kidding, Duh! These nice fellas bring you experimental electronics packed with oppressive and exceptionally dark energy! Lately they’ve added a Blonde Reddish girly person to their line up who treats eyes and ears…out of heressss!

V.A.S. 17-01-10; Thao w/the Get Down Stay Down

Before we sit down with mama and papa bear and stuff our bellies with them puny christmasturkeys only to hit the slopes afterworths and enjoy a well deserved holiday a la France we have to deliver some good news to mankind: We’ve booked the fantastic Thao with the Get Down Stay Down for the first Vette Analoge Shit of the new year! Hooray for us.

Don’t know miss Thao yet? This is what KillRockStars had to say about her:

According to Thao Nguyen, she has two talents: her first is she has a knack for beat-boxing and humming at the same time (Rahzel needn’t worry about any competition just yet though…) and her second, and in her opinion finest, is that she had a capacity to watch so much TV as a kid, she’s convinced her personality is made up of several different sitcom characters. Of course Thao, the 23 year Virginia-bred songwriter, is forgetting her unique voice, natural sense for a good melody, and striking lyrics, skillful guitar plucking and her deadly dry sense of humour. Thao’s debut for Kill Rock Stars, showcases all these talents and more, proving she’s a star in the making.

Better yet. Listen to one of their songs and fill up that empty page in your agenda asap.

Thao w/the Get Down Stay Down – Know Better Learn Faster

Looking back at: Clues

While the Le Guess Who? Festival is knocking at our door, we’d like to take a sec and reminisce. Only two weeks ago we hosted the official Le Guess Who? Pre-Party in dB’s with the awesome Clues, and man, did we have a blast. A packed venue and exactly the right tunes to get us in that guess who? mood.
Check out this first vid of Clues (more on the way) and hope to see you tomorrow night at our own show during the festival with Audiotransparent, Moon & Sun and Ryland Bouchard in the Kargadoor.

Moon & Sun, Audiotransparent & Ryland Bouchard at LE GUESS WHO?

Pffff…Still recovering from the BEEP! BEEP!, LE GUESS WHO? pre-party. Right now we are heading towards the festival itself. So it’s time to get back to work again and tell you what you should do next…iifffff you live in Holland that is!  So I’m going to keep this one nice and short for my self. All text underneath is stolen. Still we do agree more or less ;)

Ow and I included some listening pleasure as well. Check it!

Friday 27th, November @ Kargadoor, Utrecht

Moon & Sun plays the self-invented genre of Apocalypso. The resulting EP ‘Moon & Sun sings Apocalypso’ contains 4 of the most seducing songs that were made this year. Crackly triphop beats and the sultry voice of Tormell, mixed with Carribean rythms and surprising samples.

  1. Moon & Sun – Ashes

Audiotransparent from Groningen is one of The Netherlands’ best and most underrated bands. Their melancholic songs are dressed in tasteful, hypnotic arrangements, with a creative use of strings and samples. Time to check them out and upperrate them! (OK this last sentence I wrote my self)

Ryland Bouchard (ex-The Robot Ate Me) occupies his own odd universe. With a high voice he sings strange indiepop songs on dark topics, such as his schizophrenic mother that was raped in prison by the prison guards, or his extremely religious brother who would regularly beat Bouchard up, for ‘religious’ reasons. Bouchard sometimes plays folk songs with an acoustic guitar, other times he’ll do indiepop with keyboards and drum computers, or he’ll suddenly start playing avant-garde compositions with clarinet and percussion. Live he lets the audience play an important role in the music. Just like Mount Eerie and The Flaming Lips, Ryland Bouchard has the courage to be ambitious and controversial. For the real connoisseurs.

  1. Ryland Bouchard – Climb to the top

Doors: 20:00
Damage: 6 Euro

So maybe we are a little insane…

Beep Beep’s Vette Analoge Shit presents:

LE GUESS WHO pre PARTY w/ CLUES (unicorns/arcade fire) for FREE.

The nice people of the Le Guess Who festival asked us to participate in this years edition of the potentially best indoor festival in Holland. And so we do! Not only will we curate a venue during the festival it self, but we will also be hosting the PRE-PARTY. So we’ve booked Clues (the new with Unicorns front man Alden Penner and Brendan Reed of Arcade Fire) to create awesomess. And since we are so desperately desperate for people to like us, we’ve decided that all of you are welcome. For Free!! Jeez! Read the rest of this entry »

looking back at: The Black Atlantic & Windmill

While The Black Atlantic guys (‘n girl) are still showing their swagger all over Europe, we already have a clip ready for your enjoyment. Behold! The Black Atlantic performing the titelsong ‘Reverence for Fallen Trees’ followed by Windmill performing ‘Boarding Lounges’.
Eyes open? Ears open? Mouth closed? GO!!

looking back at: Castanets

Check out the vid we made of Castanets performing the astonishingly beautiful track ‘Sway’ at the Vette Analoge Shit, 02-10-2009, studio dB’s. And boy, the look that girl is giving at 1:50 is enough to make a man go insane. Good stuff.

Oh, and yeah. Safe to embed (CC BY-NC-SA baby).
